There’s lots of great family theatre happening around Dorset but it can be hard to find the right show for your young folk.

We put everything in one place & simplify it, so everyone can find the magic.

I’m Lizzy - I love family theatre and live in Dorset.
I want to help as many people as possible to find a great show and give them the confidence to go.

I’m not paid to run this site - and you can’t advertise on it. This means you find shows in date order, not shows with a big marketing budget.

If you’d like to support you can send me a donation on Ko-fi .

The project is perfectly imperfect and transparent in it’s being so.

You’ll find my thinking, criteria and F&Q’s below.

  • I really love family theatre, but spend way too long on ‘what’s on’ sections of different sites filtering by ‘family’ work.

I’d like to make that easier for myself - and lots of other people - because I think family work is transformative.

I also know the first time I took my baby to a show I was terrified of how they might react, and I worked at the venue!

So as well as helping people find a great show, I want to give them confidence to take a trip.

I’m choosing to keep the site advert-free. This means you can access the events in date order and find the right show / age range / location / ticket price for you - not the show with the biggest marketing budget.

  • Thank you for asking!

I pay my hosting costs and put around 2 hours a week into the site to keep it useful for you. This has a value of around £224 a month.

So - if you’d like to you can:

    1) Buy me a Ko-fi (you choose the amount to donate)

    2) If you’re a venue / org / something else - I’d welcome an open conversation on how you can support what I’m doing and how we might collab. Perhaps this is financial, perhaps this is signposting, perhaps this is something else. Let’s explore!

  • It can be a big deal choosing a show, investing in the tickets, getting out the door, and then praying they don’t cry all the way through / run out the fire exit and set off all the alarms.

Everyone has different needs on a theatre trip and I’m really passionate about equipping you with the confidence and info to go for it.

Read my top tips here and check out the access info for different venues before you go.

  • We list family works (work specifically made for, or particularly amazing for - age range 0 to 12 (ish!)

These might be theatre, dance, music, pop-up, outdoor arts or community shows around Dorset and slightly beyond in Hampshire.

Events can be ticketed or free, and must be available to the public - not a private or closed gathering.

    What we don’t list

    • Theatre Schools / training / weekly groups or classes. As I grow this site and the project I’d like to do that in the future - sign up to the mailing list below for updates.

    • Shows on at 7:30pm that are made for adults but could be ok for children. They’re wonderful - but not our focus here.

  • 1) Check it fits the criteria above

    2) Fill in this form

  • Sure thing!

I pull info from your website, so it may be it’s been updated and I haven’t see it - or you’d like to add in details like breastfeeding spaces etc - awesome!

Just email hello@southcoastfamilytheatre.co.uk and I’ll update the site.

Same thing if you’re not on here and think you should be - no one will have been left off on purpose. (Check our criteria section above first)

  • I’ll always do my best to make sure the information here is accurate - but it’s your responsibility to check the details of the event you’re going to with the organisation running it.

I don’t sell tickets or have any extra info on events beyond what the website links tell you. Don’t ask me questions on individual shows - I won’t know. Only the ticket provider can give you that info.

I accept no liability for inaccurate information on this site.

(But - it is created in the spirit of being as useful as possible. So I’ll keep it as up-to-date as I can, and you double-check the details of the show you’re booking with the organisation you’re booking with - deal?)

  • I’m on hello@southcoastfamilytheatre.co.uk

It may take a few days for me to reply as I do my other work, childcare & set aside time to fight the patriarchy.
